British star Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs) is not happy with the rumors that WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs) is potentially going to face Andre Berto on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Khan and Berto are training mates under coach Virgil Hunter and both are advised by Al Haymon, who also works with Mayweather.
Khan seemed to be the frontrunner to face Mayweather in the fall. The Bolton fighter's standing is now being threatened by the scenario of Mayweather staging his next fight on network television, on CBS, with Berto as the opponent.
Mayweather's upcoming return is being billed as the "final fight" of his pro career.
Khan told Sky Sports: "I think he is [becoming bad for boxing]. I've always asked, why finish your career on a low note? People want to see him finish his career on a high, fighting the guys people want to see him fight.
"The fans all want to see him fight against Amir Khan. Does he really want to end his career by fighting someone he knows he's going to beat and beat convincingly?
I think he is [becoming bad for boxing]. I've always asked, why finish your career on a low note?
Khan says fans are swarming him with questions about Mayweather at every turn of his travels.
"Everywhere I go people are asking whether Floyd is going to man up and fight me. I'm just waiting on him. I spoke to Al Haymon the other day and he said even he doesn't know what Floyd's going to do. I think the whole world of boxing is waiting for Floyd's decision before they can make their own moves," Kahn said.
