Amir Khan will be taking on rival Lamont Peterson for a second time after he was upset last December when he lost by split decision in a close and exciting fight. The fight was also filled with controversy as Khan questioned the judging and was in disagreement with referee Joseph Cooper deducting two points during the fight for excessive pushing.
While Khan has had a few months to let things sink in, he revealed to BoxingScene.com that returning to Washington D.C. to partake in a fight is still very much out of the question.
“I mean I’d still maybe go there for a little holiday. I have a lot of friends over there that I made, new friends. But fighting over there, I’d never do that and I don’t think any other fighters will do that either. I mean, now I know why D.C. hasn’t had a fight there in the last 20 years” said Khan.
Khan may not have liked the way things turned out in D.C., but he still takes pride in being willing to go into another fighter’s backyard to defend his titles.
“You know what, it shows what type of fighter I am. I’ll go anywhere and fight anyone being the champion as well. Lamont didn’t want to come to England to fight me. Imagine if he came to England and fought me there. Then I would’ve said he’s got balls but he didn’t want to do that. I’m one of them guys that I’ll fight anyone, anywhere, any place” expressed Khan.
One major complaint Khan expressed was over the scoring of the fight by the judges. Good ole hometown cooking was what Khan and his team said was going on when he came up on the short end of the stick. With the fight being in Las Vegas, the judging according to Amir won’t be an issue and hopefully they won’t be necessary.
“I’m not trying to leave it in to the judges. Even if I do [the judging is] going to be neutral. I’m going to put on a performance of a lifetime. I’m going to go in there and if a knockout comes, it comes but we will win the fight unanimously and we will win it in style” said Amir.
