British star Amir Khan (28-3, 19KOs) feels his style will be the difference in a fight with WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26KOs). Mayweather is scheduled to return in a headline fight of a Showtime Pay-Per-View event on May 3rd from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
"Styles make fights. We've seen Floyd go against guys who come forward, pressure fighters. We've not really seen him go against guys who are quick, who have quick foot work. We've seen him a few times, against the likes of Zab Judah being quick and other fighters who were quick, who caused him a lot of problems, who had a good jab and good clean, crisp punches. That's what I bring to the table. I'm a different style and that's why I think I would give Floyd a lot of problems....the movement, the explosiveness," Khan said.
"There is one thing people can say about me, when I go in there I give it my all. I give it 100% When I get hit I don't take a step back or gives up. I never give up until the end."
Recently, Mayweather put together a poll where fans voted for his next opponent. The two choices provided were Khan and WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana. Khan won the poll with more than 60% of the votes, but Mayweather has yet to announce anything. Khan feels Maidana's lack of speed would make him a sitting duck against Mayweather.
"He's made for Floyd Mayweather. People want to see Floyd against a different style. People may think I'm talking rubbish, but if you think about the last three opponents that Floyd faced...they had slow feet, slow hands...no disrespect they are great fighters but that [type of style] suits Floyd Mayweather. But what Floyd has problems with is speed, movement and explosiveness," Khan said.
