Big plans are in store for the Boxeo Telemundo series in year ahead, which comes out swinging with a terrific main event in one of the circuit's favorite locations.
A junior welterweight crossroads bout between unbeaten rising prospects Yomar Alamo and Kendo Castaneda will top a February 28 show live on Telemundo from Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida. The bout was confirmed by Felix ‘Tutico’ Zabala Jr., whose All-Star Boxing Inc. has long been the series’ primary content provider.
"These two contenders know in order to get a title fight in one of boxing's best division's, you must risk it all to get to the top, for Yomar its his NABO Belt and for Kendo his undefeated record," noted Zabala. "This is the type of fight that makes me feel proud of as a promoter, a true 50/50 fight, may the best man win."
The dangerous two-way test indirectly carries title fight implications, as both boxers are presently in the WBO Top 15. Alamo (17-0-1, 12KOs) holds a WBO regional title, which he managed to hold onto following a surprising 10-round draw versus Mexico’s Antonio Moran last October.
That bout also took place at Osceola Heritage Park where Alamo—who turns 25 next March—will fight for the fourth straight time amidst five consecutive fights in the Orlando/Kissimmee area.
Castenada (17-0, 8KOs) represents by far the toughest test of Alamo’s career as he is set for his Telemundo debut. The unbeaten junior welterweight from San Antonio, Texas—who will celebrate his 26th birthday this weekend—was brought long slow through his first six years in the pro ranks but is coming off of an impressive 12-month stretch.
Last December saw Castaneda bump off previously unbeaten Gilbert Venegas Jr. in his San Antonio hometown, registered a 10-round decision as he also claimed in his next fight in beating Eudy Bernardo this past March. Whereas Alamo is coming off the toughest fight of his career, Castaneda enters riding high after having stopped Stan Martyniouk in two rounds this past October in Reno, Nevada.
