Even after a week, the boxing world is still buzzing over Adrien Broner’s dominant performance over Antonio DeMarco in his debut as a Lightweight.
While Broner had been garnering a lot of praise, some felt he had yet to be tested or faced a formidable opponent. DeMarco was viewed as Broner’s toughest test as he was facing a taller, longer, and hard hitting southpaw that could pose stylistic problems. Broner passed his test with ease and in the process hoped to shut down all the critics who questioned him.
“I still got to watch [the fight] a couple more times, I've only seen it one time. But the victory is good. Now I hope that all the critics who really thought that I wasn't the real deal, just a pushover, are on the bandwagon now. And guess what, the bandwagon, it never closes. Doors are always open” said Broner.
While Broner might have made his victory look easy, he assures DeMarco was one hell of a fighter and a true test. He feels even though he defeated DeMarco in their bout, DeMarco will still go on to do big things.
“I did what I expected. I did what I wanted to do. I did whatever I wanted to do in there. To be honest it was the toughest test of my career. DeMarco is a great champion. I still think he can go do other things and still win another world title. It was a great performance now it’s time for HBO to make me the logo” Broner would tell BoxingScene.
There are already a slew of possible matchups for Broner who is quickly becoming one of the biggest stars in boxing not only because of his personality outside the ring, but the performances he conducts inside the ring as well.
