Two weeks ago, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs) told BoxingScene.com that he would love to see Adrien Broner (23-0, 19KOs), the WBO's super featherweight champion, take on Cuban sharpshooter Yuriorkis Gamboa (21-0, 16KOs).
"Adrien Broner, I think I've seen him two or three times. He's a strong, solid young fighter. In the future I think Adrien Broner would match up good with Yuri Gamboa," Mayweather told BoxingScene.com.
Mayweather and Gamboa are good friends, forging a solid bond over the last couple of months.
"Gamboa is a good friend of mine. Gamboa is one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world. I saw him work in the gym and that motherf****er can fight. He can't really speak much English. He can speak a little [English], but when 50 Cent's songs come on, he sings the lyrics...it's crazy," Mayweather said.
Broner told BoxingScene that he doesn't see Gamboa as being much of a 'a problem.'
"Everybody want a big fight. With Gamboa, Like I said - any work is easy work. Gamboa is good fighter. You can't take nothing away from his amateur career but this is the pros....a big difference. I'm just saying, he touches the canvas way too much for me. If I touch him, he's ain't getting up," Broner told BoxingScene.com.
Broner returns on May 19th at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, in the HBO televised co-feature to the Amir Khan-Lamont Peterson junior welterweight rematch. The opponent will be British boxer Gary Sykes (20-2, 5KOs).
"I just got done going twelve rounds with no rest. I just got done and I was ready [to fight] a month ago. I was just waiting for another opponent, waiting for another victim and we finally found somebody to grab that rope to hang themselves. We are definitely going to go in fresh, fly and flashy and leave fresh, fly and flashy. No cuts, not buts and we're going to dance our way out of this one," Broner said.
