As previously reported, former champion Antonio Margarito (38-8, 27KOs), 37-years-old, is preparing for his comeback with veteran trainer Robert Garcia. He said the comeback may take place by the end of the year.
Margarito has been inactive since losing by TKO in nine rounds in his rematch with Miguel Cotto in December in 2011. Margarito was pulled out of the match by the ringside physician due to the swelling around his right eye.
He says the right eye has been evaluated by specialized doctor and he was cleared.
His target division is junior middleweight and he would like to face the two biggest names around that weight - Miguel Cotto and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez - who battle each other on November 21st at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Margarito and Canelo had traded words a few years ago, when the 'Tijuana Tornado' said Canelo was not capable of beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. Margarito and Cotto are 1-1-1 in their two fight series.
"Yes, of course I would like to go against one of them, but I know that I have to that I can compete at that level. I am not worried about doing that, because I know that I am going to give good fights. I just need the opportunity to prove it," Margarito said to ESPN Deportes.
