Former world champion Amir Khan is not overly interested in a potential showdown with rising contender Conor Benn.

This past Saturday night at the Copper Box Arena in London, Benn demolished veteran Samuel Vargas in less than two minutes of the first round.

Benn, 24-years-old and now 18-0, pinned Vargas against the ropes and unloaded with a variety of power punch combinations until the referee jumped in and waved off the contest.

Khan had faced Vargas in 2018. The Bolton star won a twelve round unanimous decision, but he was forced to overcome some very tough moments after getting dropped in the second stanza and badly rocked in the championship rounds.

After his biggest career victory, Benn called for a “proper test” - and specifically called for a fight with Khan.

“Give me Amir Khan. I know he’s too busy on reality shows and all that, but listen - if he wants it, he can get it,” Benn said.

Khan, a 2004 Olympic gold medal winner and former junior welterweight champion, has been inactive for nearly two years.

He last saw action in July of 2019, when he traveled to Saudi Arabia and stopped late-replacement Billy Dib in four rounds.

Khan does not see any reason to face someone like Benn at the moment - unless the young Brit has some world titles around his waist.

“Conor well done. Great kid, wish him the best. At his age I was a world champ. Maybe if he had some belts that fight would make sense but he’s got a long way to go yet," Khan stated.

In recent interviews, Khan explained that he was far more interested in finally finalizing a potential grudge match with fellow former world champion Kell Brook. The two boxers have discussed the scenario of facing each other for several years, but the contest never came off.
