Alexander Brand: record, next fight and profile →
Alexander Brand has one loss on his record. The man who gave it to him says Brand will soon have two. Badou Jack was a 10-0 prospect when he took on Brand in May 2012, winning an eight-round split decision. Jack went 5-0-1 after that before suffering his first pro loss, but he has since rebounded by becoming a super middleweight titleholder.
BoxingScene.com recently caught up with boxing manager Egis Klimas whose deep stable of fighters includes IBF/WBO/WBA light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev, WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko, and several others.
Andre Ward’s lengthy periods of inactivity have been covered and opined on countless times. He fought just once in 2012, once in 2013, and not at all in 2014, dealing with injury and an extended attempt at parting ways with Dan Goossen, a promoter who has since passed away.
Andre Ward will soon be facing one of the two best light heavyweights in the world, Sergey Kovalev. But first, Ward will be facing a foe who’s decidedly not. Ward’s opponent on Aug. 6 on HBO is Alexander Brand, a 39-year-old from Colombia who is 25-1 with 19 KOs but is otherwise not anywhere near the top of the 175-pound division. Part of that is because Brand wasn’t even in the 175-pound division; he is a career super middleweight. Ward had plied his craft at 168 until recently.
Earlier today in Ekaterinburg, Russia - IBF/WBO/WBA light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (30-0-1, 26KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over top contender Isaac Chilemba (24-4-2, 10KOs). The scores were 117-110, 116-111 and 118-109.
Virgil Hunter, trainer of Olympic gold medal winner Andre Ward (29-0, 15KOs), believes his fighter is receiving unfair criticism over the selection of Alexander Brand for their upcoming return on August 6th at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.
