BoxingScene.com recently caught up with boxing manager Egis Klimas whose deep stable of fighters includes IBF/WBO/WBA light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev, WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko, and several others.
Kovalev (30-0-1, 26KOs) and former super middleweight champion Andre Ward (29-0, 15KOs) have had a November 19th date to face each other locked in for quite some time.
In order to make the highly anticipated fight a realty, they both have had to win two interim bouts a piece. Kovalev has taken care of his end by stopping Jean Pascal in a rematch in January and winning a wide decision over Isaac Chilemba earlier this month.
Ward has won a dominant decision over Sullivan Barrera in March and now must take care of business August 6th against Alexander Brand to set the Kovalev fight in stone.
HBO will have televised all four fights to build towards the pay-per-view.
Klimas said that Kovalev will be attendance in Oakland for Ward's fight against Brand just as he was for the Barrera fight.
"That is what the plan is. He is coming back from Russia at the end of the month and then we are going to be in Oakland August 6th at ringside," Klimas told BoxingScene.com.
