Adrien Broner: record, next fight and profile →
Former four division world champion Adrien Broner is less than a week away from a scheduled ring return. Broner has been away from the sport for more than two years and there were many who felt he would never come back to the squared circle.
Former four-division world champion and must-see attraction Adrien "The Problem" Broner will end his two-year hiatus from boxing when he faces Jovanie Santiago in a 12-round super lightweight bout Saturday, February 20 live on SHOWTIME at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. in a Premier Boxing Champions event.
Jovanie “El Lobito” Santiago (14-0-1, 10 KOs) will face the challenge that could potentially define his future in boxing. The Puerto Rican contender will meet four-division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner in the main event of a Showtime televised card from the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, on February 20.
Adrien Broner admires the current state of the lightweight division as much as anyone else in the sport. Still, the idea that Ryan Garcia—or any of the other young guns at the weight—can blast out his stablemate, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis (24-0, 23KOs) inside of two rounds is too far-fetched for his liking.
Puerto Rican prospect Xander Zayas is getting ready for his next fight, which takes place at the MGM Grand's Conference Center in Las Vegas, on February 20 when he faces James Martin (6-1).
Regis Prograis doesn’t have to like the politics of the sport to know how to work around them. There always seemed little chance of the former 140-pound champion making his way to the front of the line as the opponent of choice for Adrien Broner’s first fight back in more than two years. It didn’t stop the two from enjoying back and forth trash talk through social media, although in the end it meant just another targeted fight to fall by the wayside for the 32-year old southpaw.
Adrien Broner believes he has a lot of championship-caliber boxing left in him. The polarizing Broner has been a pro for nearly 13 years and has almost 40 fights on his record. The Cincinnati native is still just 31, however, and feels as though he remains in his physical prime.
Adrien Broner has finally settled on an opponent for his long-anticipated return. The former four-division title-holder will oppose Puerto Rico’s Jovanie Santiago on February 20, multiple sources have informed BoxingScene.com. The bout – which will be contested at or near the junior welterweight limit of 140 pounds – will headline a “Showtime Championship Boxing” tripleheader from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Adrien Broner doesn’t appear nearly as interested in fighting Regis Prograis as Prograis is in boxing Broner. The four-division champion called Prograis “a clown” for predicting he’d become the first fighter to knock out Broner. He also told Showtime’s Brian Custer during a recent episode of his “Last Stand Podcast” that he doesn’t see any immediate need to face Prograis.
For the first time in years, Adrien Broner is thinking big picture in his boxing career. The former four-division titlist is still on the hunt for an opponent to face atop a Feb. 13 Showtime-televised tripleheader. The date remains in place for Cincinnati’s Broner, who has trained through Thanksgiving and the year-end holidays with the intention of not just returning to the ring but remaining a constant presence.
