Adam Azim went the ten-round distance for the second straight time.

Seven months after a six-fight knockout streak was brought to a halt, Azim once again went to the cards in a sound, unanimous decision victory over Ukraine’s Aram Fanyan. Scores of 100-90, 99-91 and 98-92 all landed in favor of Azim in their Sky Sports Box Office chief support Saturday at AO Arena in Manchester, England.

Azim improved to 9-0 (6KOs) with his second win of the year. It came after going the ten-round distance for the first time in his young career when he shut out previously unbeaten Santos Reyes on February 11 at OVO Arena Wembley.

The bout was previously due to take place on June 16 but Azim was forced to postpone as he suffered an infection from a cut on his knuckle during training camp. He has since celebrated his 21st birthday before he came back around to getting this fight on the books.

Azim was poised at the start while Fanyan sought opportunities for his money punch, a left hook over the top. Azim jabbed and moved as he looked to score with power shots. Fanyan found success with his hook, none of which hurt his unbeaten foe but enough to earn his respect.

Azim continued to fight behind the jab in rounds two and three. He doubled up on the stick as he focused more on boxing than trading with Fanyan, who landed a crisp left hook late in the final minute of the third round. Azim was briefly unsteady but composed himself quickly enough to avoid any ensuing shots.

The deceptive power of Fanyan was clearly felt as Azim continued to box and not take any risks. The visiting boxer from the Ukraine adjusted his spacing to minimize the impact of Azim’s jab in rounds four and five. His own effort to take the lead, however, resulted in wild right hands that sailed over the top.

Fanyan took the lead in round six, though it was Azim who landed the cleaner blows. A left hook to the body got through for the three-year pro, who was urged by trainer Shane McGuigan between rounds to close the gap before he throws the shot. Azim was also encouraged to let his right hand rip given Fanyan’s left hook-dominant approach.

Azim stepped up the attack early in round eight. Fanyan sat in the pocket and threw a left hook to back up Azim. Action heated up as Azim landed with a right hand upstairs at center ring and again as Fanyan was pinned against the ropes.

Fanyan was warned by referee Michael Alexander for leading with his head in the final minute of round nine. Azim briefly winced from minor pain around his left eye but shook it off as action resumed. Fanyan was unable to recapture his early round success as his offense grew predictable and was mostly slipped by Azim.

The tenth and final round saw Azim find minor success with his left hook upstairs and to the body. Both boxers landed right hands during a brief exchange along the ropes just before the final minute.

Azim advanced to 9-0 (6KOs) with his second consecutive ten-round distance win. Fanyan fell to 23-2 (5KOs) as his ten-fight win streak came to a halt.

Headlining the show, Liam Smith (33-3-1, 20KOs) and Chris Eubank Jr. (32-3, 23KOs) will meet in a scheduled twelve-round, middleweight rematch. Smith won their first bout via fourth-round knockout.
