It was recently reported in BoxingScene.com that WBC champion Jhonny Gonzalez plans on returning to the ring in March. Gonzalez is focused on securing a rematch against former three division champion Abner Mares but says that he has a lot of options on the table.
Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is very interested in finally making an all-Mexican showdown between Southern California rivals Abner Mares (28-1-1, 15KOs) and Leo Santa Cruz (28-1, 16KOs). De La Hoya wants to make the fight in April or May, with a catch-weight of 124-pounds - as Santa Cruz would go up by two and Mares would come down by two.

Last Saturday night, former three division champion Abner Mares (27-1-1) picked up his second win in a row with a fifth round stoppage of Jose Ramirez at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on the Amir Khan-Devon Alexander televised undercard. MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Hot rising welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr. (15-0, 10KOs) battered Javier Castro (27-8, 22KOs) over five rounds. Spence was tagging Castro easily with both hands from the very first bell. Spence was unloading with ease and nearly every punch was landing flush as Castro had few answers. Ramirez struggled to make weight for the fight, being forced to drop another two pounds for a fight contracted for a catch-weight of 128-pounds plus one.
