The anticipated fight between Mexicans Miguel 'Alacran' Berchelt and Miguel 'Micky' Roman for the super featherweight championship of the World Boxing Council is coming further along.

The two sides are negotiating for a date in the month of October in the United States, but has not yet reached an agreement.

The WBC gave both sides a month of free negotiations on June 23 - so they have a few days before the heat will be turned up with a purse bid.

The two sides are hoping to avoid the purse bid with a deal, with the contest being televised in the United States on HBO - where both boxers have been showcased since early last year.

Roman became the mandatory challenger in December, when he pulled off an upset knockout of Orlando Salido, who at the time was in line to fight Berchelt.

"It is a mandatory fight, and the right to get the shot was won by 'Micky' Roman, and we are in the process of reaching an agreement with both [promoter] Oswaldo Kuchle and Golden Boy Promotions. However, we are not at a hundred percent in what we are planning, but it will surely be for the month of October when both boxers will face each other, "said Zanfer Promotions Operations Direction Guillermo Brito, who promotes Berchelt, to ESPN Deportes.

"That fight would have to be in the United States for the economic factors involved. We know that [Berchelt's promoter Kuchle] has the idea of ??doing it in Mexico with some important economic backing - but for the economic levels that the fight is going to reach, it would have to be [in the United States]."

Berchelt became a breakout in 2018 - after he crashed on the scene in January 2017 with a TKO win over Francisco Vargas to capture the WBC super featherweight title.
