Wlifredo Vazquez Jr. prefers to land a direct rematch with WBO super bantamweight champion Jorge Arce, and not a possible WBO eliminator with fellow Puerto Rican Jonathan "Polvo" Oquendo in October. Vazquez's co-promoter, Tutico Zabala, has been in talks with Puerto Rico Best Boxing to stage the eliminator with Oquendo, but he's also trying to get his fighter back in the ring with Arce. Back in May, Arce stopped Vazquez in the twelfth round to capture the WBO title.

"We have been in negotiations for some time to get the rematch. That's what we are looking for, although the fight with Oquendo is possible. We are looking for a date and a location for a rematch and we still hope to do it this year," Zabala told Carlos Gonzalez.
