Luis Sandoval catches up with undefeated former champion Yuriorkis Gamboa to discuss his ring return, potentially facing Adrien Broner, Nonito Donaire and more.

Yuriorkis Gamboa is set to make his return to the ring after a 15 month layoff in a new weight class and under the new promotional banner SMS Promotions on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez IV fight on December 8th. Gamboa looked in phenomenal shape at his media day as he worked out and put his speed and power on display. While he needs to get back into the swing of things in this fight, there have already been discussions of the possible opponents Gamboa could face next. One name that has been brought up by the public repeatedly is rising star and current WBC Lightweight champion Adrien Broner.

Hollywood,Calif. --- "WELCOME TO BOXING" --- Artist and promoter Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson(ctr) poses with his undefeated former world champion Yuriokis Gamboa and Hall of Fame Top Rank promoter Bob Arum at Fortune Gym in Hollywood during media day for Gamboa's upcoming WBA Interim Super Featherweight Championship fight against Michael Farenas of the Philippines on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez.

For the past few weeks, outspoken trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. had been telling me that he was soon to be making the move from Johnny Tocco’s Boxing Club to a new gym in the Vegas area in order to continue training his growing stable of fighters. On Tuesday afternoon, Floyd Sr. was inside of the aforementioned gym just west of the Vegas strip. The facility is at least part-owned by music mogul turned boxing promoter 50 Cent, who is looking to break into the sport with his SMS Promotions.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum believes Filipino featherweight Michael Farenas has a chance against Cuba’s flashy and undefeated Yuriorkis Gamboa when they clash in a ten round bout on the blockbuster undercard of Pacquiao-Marquez IV at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on December 8. In a telephone conversation with BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard, the astute promoter said Gamboa “hasn’t fought in over a year and Farenas can take advantage of that.”

When 50 Cent took to his personal Twitter page on Friday night and attempted to verbally berate his former friend Floyd Mayweather, calling for him to face his fighter Yuriorkis Gamboa, very few took his taunts seriously. Still, if anything, the talk of such a fight has made for some interesting feedback. Earlier this year, both 50 Cent and Gamboa had been spending plenty of time inside of Mayweather’s personal gym in Las Vegas. Times have changed, however, with the recent promotional and personal fallout between 50 Cent and Mayweather, as Gamboa is now aligned with the former’s SMS Promotions.

Rapper turned boxing promoter 50 Cent has continued his public attack, via social networks, at former friend Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26KOs). The former friends engaged in a war of words on Friday. It continued, at least from 50 Cent, on Saturday night. 50 Cent is making a public push for a fight between Mayweather and former champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (21-0, 16KOs), who the rapper promotes under his SMS Promotions banner.

The war of words continues. Now rapper 50 Cent has jabbed back at Leonard Ellerbe, the adviser to Floyd Mayweather Jr., and the rapper offered up a $20 million dollar bonus for Mayweather to fight Yuriorkis Gamboa. Two days ago, 50 Cent officially announced his departure from the "The Money Team" - a phrase that Mayweather coined for his close friends and associates. 50 Cent was under the impression that Mayweather would become his partner in a brand new promotional company, TMT Promotions.

Juan Carlos Salgado and his handlers thought they could get the best of both worlds – a high profile optional defense prior to satisfying their alphabet mandatory challenger obligations. It’s now unclear when or whom the 130 lb. titlist will next face. Plans for a November 17 showdown with unbeaten Yuriorkis Gamboa are now in jeopardy, on the heels of TMT Promotions – Gamboa’s promoter for a brief time - closing up shop before the company ever had a chance to dig its heels into a show.

IBF super featherweight champion Juan Carlos Salgado (26-1-1, 16KOs) was trying to get a knockout victory last Saturday night in Puebla against Jonathan Barros. Salgado won a twelve round unanimous decision with scores of 115-112, 116-111 and 116-111. He was happy to fight someone with so much experience. Barros' only defeats came at the hands of Yuriorkis Gamboa and Celestino Caballero.
