WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury created a firestorm on Friday, when he took to social media and announced that a contract was sent to former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, for a September showdown at Wembley Stadium in London.
Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom, would later dispute Fury's claim - stating to reporters that a contract had never been sent to his fighter.
However, Hearn did reveal that Fury's co-promoter, George Warren of Queensberry Promotions, reached out to negotiate a September fight.
While Hearn is having talks with Warren, the Matchroom head is also in talks to match Joshua against former WBC champion Deontay Wilder on a December date in Saudi Arabia.
"On Tuesday or Wednesday, George Warren sent me an email and said, 'Look, would you be interested in a fight in September? We've discussed terms before. We don't think it'll be that hard to make. What are your thoughts?,'" Heanr told IFL TV.
"I rang George Warren immediately and said, 'Listen, we're planning our August fight and we are obviously in negotiations in Saudi Arabia for the [Deontay Wilder] fight in December. If we can't get that model moving, we would be more than happy to look at a Tyson Fury fight.
'Honestly, nothing else to tell you at this point other than there has not been any contract sent to us, but we are talking to George Warren and if our plans don't come to fruition we would of course be open to discussing a fight with Tyson Fury."
Malik Scott, the head trainer for Wilder, believes Fury is too erratic for Hearn and Joshua to take seriously.
"Everybody knows anything that concerns Tyson Fury, you can never put your chips in. Anything that concerns Fury, you just can’t bet on because one day he'll be fighting and the next he will be retiring. He can be very unpredictable. But what I can tell you is - with or without Tyson Fury involved - Deontay and AJ is being negotiated for Saudi Arabia," Scott told Betway.
