Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom is very motivated to eventually make the rematch between heavyweight rivals Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora.

Last December, Whyte and Chisora went to war in a one of the most exciting heavyweight fights in years, with Whyte winning a very close twelve round split decision victory.

Chisora (26-7, 18 KOs) has yet to fight since that contest took place. He was scheduled to return in a rematch with Robert Helenius, but the contest fell apart and then Chisora recently parted ways with promoter Sauerland Event.

For his part, Whyte (21-1, 16 KOs) finally returned to the ring last month when he made his American debut with a stoppage win over Malcolm Tann. The fight was part of the Terence Crawford-Julius Indongo undercard in Lincoln, Nebraska.

While Hearn wants that contest to take place sooner than later, it's probably not going to happen next - especially with Chisora being out since the first contest took place. Hearn appears to be targeting the rematch to take place at some point in the first half of 2018.

"It's a fight I definitely want to make and both guys realise it is huge," Hearn told Sky Sports. "Whether it happens next or not... Probably not. But whether it happens in the future... it's more than likely.

"Again, the aim for Dillian Whyte is to fight for a world title, whether that's Deontay Wilder, Joseph Parker or Anthony Joshua, that is the aim. He wants to be a world champion. But the Dereck Chisora fight, you can't ignore it. It's huge.

"The first fight was one of the best heavyweight fights anyone has ever seen; we want to see it again and we have to give the public what they want. So if we can't do that next, we do it the one after, but at some point we need to make Whyte-Chisora II."
