The big news that Tyson Fury just signed co-promotional agreement with Top Rank was received by the authorities of the World Boxing Council.
And to avoid further assumptions, the sanctioning body has asked the teams of British challenger and WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, to report the status of the negotiations for their promotions.
Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the WBC, has revealed that today they sent letters to the representatives of Fury (27-0-1, 19 KO's) and Wilder (40-0-1, 39 KO's) - requested a status report regarding the negotiations and they expect this week to have everything to determine what position they will take.
Wilder vs. Fury II appeared to be close to done deal, but the contest seems to be jeopardy after Fury inked with Top Rank - who have exclusive ties to ESPN.
Wilder is signed to Premier Boxing Champions, who have contractual ties to Showtime and Fox Sports.
The first contest, which ended in a controversial draw back in December 2018, was carried by Showtime Pay-Per-View.
"Precisely today we sent a statement to both teams, asking them to give us the exact position regarding the negotiation period they requested to negotiate the fight," Sulaimán said to ESPN Deportes. 'This week we are awaiting a response [from them], and once we have all the information, the WBC will make a determination regarding the facts."
"We do not know if the status of the negotiations has changed. We are going to wait for the response from both parties to confirm the status of the fight, for the moment we will not make comments that could be misinterpreted.
"The last thing we were told was that they were close to an agreement... if that changes, we will see what the Governing Board says and we will officially look at that, but so far there is no purse bid."
