Victor Morales is Set To Face David Berna at Kansas Star Arena

By Ryan Burton

BoxingScene.com recently caught up with featherweight/super featherweight prospect Victor Morales Jr. (8-0) who faces David Berna (16-3) on Saturday night at the Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kansas.

2016 US Olympian and Wichita native Nico Hernandez fights in the main event.

Both fights will be televised on Integrated Sports Pay-Per-View. Berna, who recently faced Mick Conlan, will be the most experienced opponent of Morales' career to date.

The 20-year-old Morales is from Vancouver, WA which isn't exactly a boxing hotbed. For that reason he spent the last three weeks of his camp in the Los Angeles area where he received top notch sparring.

"This is the third week that we have been here. We have been finishing up strong. We worked with Leo Santa Cruz and a bunch of other people down here. Sparring went great. I got to check myself against one of the best in the world in the division," explained Morales who will be fighting on television for the first time in his career.

"That feels great being the first time the people that can't make it can tune in and watch the fight. It doesn't put any pressure on me. It kinda just makes it where I go out and put on a show like I always do."

Morales has fought on PBC and Top Rank cards but is currently a promotional free agent.  He hopes that a great performance on Saturday will help him get the type of promotional opportunity that he is looking for.

He recently signed a managerial agreement with Sheer Sports Management who handle fighters such as Jason Quigley and Ronald Ellis and is very happy with the arrangement.

"We want to be signed but we are not rushing into anything. We are taking our time. We just signed with what I think is the best management team, Sheer Sports Management so we are happy with that. It just depends on what is coming and what everyone has to offer. We are not in any rush at all. We are going to go out an do what we need to do," Morales told BoxingScene.com.

If all goes well in Kansas, Morales hopes for a quick return to the ring.

"Hopefully I will be back in around 2 months.  Sometime in the summer," said Morales.
