OXNARD, CA – It will be a busy next few months for two-time world jr. middleweight champion Fernando Vargas.  On February 25 Vargas will challenge three-time world champion Shane Mosley in a mega pay-per-view showdown at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV.  The bout will feature two of the sport’s biggest stars in a 12 round battle.  Just a few months later “Alpha Dog”—the Nick Cassevetes film in which Vargas makes his cinematic debut—hits theaters.  The film closed the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, and if the response at the festival is an indication of how moviegoers will respond to the film, Cassevetes has a hit on his hands.

“ ‘Alpha Dog’ did, indeed, fill Park City theaters all weekend, through the premiere and into several secondary screenings, and the buzz only grew stronger as scores of moviegoers were turned away for lack of space”.  - MTV.com

"This is a well-made ensemble movie in which actors take chances with uncomfortably repulsive characters or roles unlike any previous performances”.  - The Hollywood Reporter

“A brutal, emotionally powerful film”.  - MTV.com

“This one has the potential to be huge”.  - Entertainment Weekly.com

Vargas expects the film to be well-received by movie patrons, and is proud to have been a part of the film:  “I am flattered to have had the privilege to work with a great director and writer such as Nick Cassavettes.  It has also been a pleasure to share the movie set with great actors such as Sharon Stone and Bruce Willis.

I would like to give special thanks to Frankie Cassavettes for introducing me to the big screen movie business.  After my boxing career has concluded I will be pursuing more movie opportunities.”
