Earlier this week Caleb Plant (17-0) told BoxingScene.com's Lem Satterfield that he, "wasn't scared of Jose Uzcategui" and "expects to make the fight look easy." He previously said that he planned on out boxing the IBF super middleweight champion who lives in Mexico and is originally from Venezuela.
Plant is Uzcategui's mandatory challenger and was supposed to fight him this past summer but the plans fell through when Plant hand to undergo surgery on his left hand. Uzcategui (28-2) instead faced Ezequiel Madera in a stay busy non-title bout and won a wide decision.
They will meet in the ring on January 13th at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with their bout serving as an FS1 main event.
Uzcategui's agent Sean Gibbons chuckled at Plant's comments.
"I like his confidence but this isn't Porky Medina!" Gibbons told BoxingScene.com.
That comment was in reference to Plant's most recent fight, a unanimous decision victory over Rogelio "Porky" Medina last February.
Gibbons is very confident that Uzcategui will not only defeat Plant but do it in impressive fashion. Besides the Maderna fight, Uzcategui impressively beat down and stopped former title challenger Andre Dirrell in 8 rounds in March.
He said that Dirrell displayed the same confidence in the lead up to his rematch with Uzcategui.
"This isn't the first time we have heard someone say this. Believe me, Dirrell thought the same thing," said Gibbons.
Coverage on FS1 and FOX Deportes begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and will also see unbeaten featherweight Brandon Figueroa take on Moises Flores and sensational prospect Joey Spencer entering the ring.
Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Zanfer Promotions, start at $50, are on sale now and can be purchased at AXS.com.
