According to UFC President Dana White, there has been zero communication from Floyd Mayweather Jr., Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe, and Mayweather adviser Al Haymon - regarding a high profile pay-per-view fight with UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

Mayweather, who retired from the sport last September, continues to drop hints regarding a potential fall comeback.

During multiple interviews in recent weeks, Mayweather has continuously mentioned the same opponent - McGregor. Mayweather went as far as to name McGregor as the only opponent he would actually consider for a ring return.

McGregor is under an exclusive contract with the UFC, and Mayweather would be legally precluded from making any type of fight with the MMA superstar without an agreement first being reached with White and the UFC.

The lack of communication comes at no surprise to boxing and MMA insiders alike, because most of them believe Mayweather is using McGregor's name [and vice versa] to generate headlines in the press.

A few years ago Mayweather claimed he was fighting Devon Alexander on pay-per-view, and that was a swerve to protect the name of the actual opponent Robert Guerrero. Last year he claimed Karim Mayfield was a frontrunner to face him in September, but that also was a swerve to play down reports of a deal being reached with Andre Berto - who Mayweather eventually announced as the actual opponent.

Mayweather's use of McGregor could also be another swerve to throw reporters off the trail of the actual opponent being considered.

While Mayweather has firmly stated that a fight with McGregor would have to be fought under traditional boxing rules, it appears White has other ideas.

“I haven’t talked to Floyd at all [about this],” White said to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports.

“But here’s the thing: Floyd and [Manny] Pacquiao are in the same sport, and look how long it took for them to fight each other. It took six years for them to fight, and they didn’t have to negotiate the rules or anything else. If Floyd calls me, we’ll start with knees, kicks and elbows and go from there.”
