Don’t expect Tyson Fury to pop up in an Instagram Story for the next eight weeks.

The WBC titleholder from Manchester, England announced Tuesday that he will refrain from making posts on his social media until he defends his WBC heavyweight title against mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte, scheduled for April 23 at Wembley Stadium in London.

“I’m about to go off social media for the next eight and a half weeks,” Fury said in a Twitter video. “I’m going to go into training camp to give Dillian Whyte all the respect in the world that he needs.”

The heavyweight title bout will guarantee Fury a purse of $29,538,000, while the Jamaican-born, London-based Whyte is set to receive $7,384,500, according to an 80-20 split. Fury’s co-promoter Frank Warren, who promotes Fury with Bob Arum of Top Rank Inc., won the purse bid for the bout with a record $41 million offer, beating out the offer by Whyte’s promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing. Ten percent of the bid – $4,102,500 – will go to the winner.

Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs) has been active on social media in recent weeks, trying to get under Whyte’s skin. Whyte (28-2, 19 KOs), unlike Fury, has been uncharacteristically silent, reportedly because his team was trying to adjust some of the terms in the bout contract. Whyte took his time signing the contract, finally delivering signed papers just before the deadline on Monday night.

With the fight now a done deal, Fury is ready to go into social media hibernation as he focuses his attention on his training camp.

“I’ll never underestimate anybody in my life, and I’ll give this man all the respect he deserves coming as the number one-ranked WBC heavyweight challenger in the world,” Fury said.

“Don’t phone me, call me, email me, text me or try to contact me in any single way as I am out of bounds until May. I will see you all at the press conference. I’ll be training away, please appreciate my privacy and space.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Fury poked fun at Whyte for waiting until the 11th hour to sign the contract for what would be the biggest paycheck of Whyte’s professional career.

“Oh my God,” Fury said sarcastically. “Dillian Whyte’s signed his contract for 8 million dollars. What a surprise!

“An absolute idiot. Should this even be a talking point? The man signed, for the biggest payday he’s ever going to get in his life.”
