An announcement about Tyson Fury’s return is “imminent” according to boxing manager Spencer Brown.
Fury has declared that he would return to the ring in 2026 after “retiring” following his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk for a second time in December 2024.
The big Morecambe man, the former WBC heavyweight champion, is now – according to Brown, in conversation with Sky Sports – preparing for a return in April.
“There’s four or five different opponents we’re looking at,” Brown said. “There’s a few that tweak our interest. We’re looking, we are really down the road with the contract, we have quite a bit more work to do, we’re down the road on them but an announcement is imminent and you will see Tyson back in the ring and we’re looking and talking to opponents at this very moment.”
Attention will obviously turn to who will be in the opposite corner when Fury returns, and one of the rumoured opponents is Arslanbek Makhmudov, who is 21-2 (19 KOs) and was last seen outpointing Dave Allen in Sheffield in November over 10 rounds.
“I’d say he’s in the top three or four, most definitely,” said Brown. “We are looking at five or six different opponents, but most definitely he would be at the top but that’s not for me to announce, that’s for the promoters. Everybody’s working very hard to get this fight underway, so that wouldn’t be my position to confirm to you. All I can say is he’s one of the three or four we are looking at very closely.”
Fury is 34-2-1 (24 KOs) with the two losses coming to Usyk in his last two fights. Before that, he was dropped and pushed to the wire by boxing debutant Francis Ngannou, but Brown said Fury – who turned over in 2008 – is excited to return.
“Oh most definitely. All reports back, and I speak to Tyson daily, he’s enjoying it,” said Brown. “He’s in Thailand, [it’s] very hot, he hasn’t started sparring yet but he’s really enjoying his boxing and really looking forward to coming back.”
