Returning to the ring for the first time since the second of a pair of consecutive decision losses to Jamie McDonnell in September 2015, 25-year old former WBA secondary bantamweight titlist Tomoki Kameda (32-2, 20 KO), 123, of Tokyo, Japan, needed less than half a round to jump start his career on Saturday night, eviscerating 28-year old journeyman Edgar Martinez (18-14-1, 10 KO), 122, of Anahuac, Chihuahua, Mexico with a blistering left hook. Martinez was a late replacement for veteran Cecilio Santos.  The referee was Lupe Garcia.

Kameda jumped on Martinez at the outset, rocking him with a sharp right hand to put him in trouble. Martinez kept his feet and tried to play defense but he was badly outmatched.

A Kameda left hook sent him hard to the floor, his head snapping off the canvas. Garcia didn’t even bother to count, halting the action at 1:16 of round one.

Kameda is the youngest of the famous Kameda brothers, his elder brothers Koki and Kameda both also having been titlists in the sport. He is the last of the sibling trio still active in the sport with both his brothers having retired in 2015.

30-year old WBA women’s Minimumweight champion Anabel Ortiz (23-3, 4 KO), 104 ¾, of Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico, made it thirteen wins in a row on Saturday night, successfully defending her title with a ten-round decision over 29-year old Deborah Rengifo (7-3-1, 3 KO), 105, of Caracas, Venezuela. The referee was Manuel Rodriguez.

The more experienced Ortiz used a varied for much of the night, alternating between pressing the action and countering Rengifo’s aggression. The challenger had some success using a slight edge in reach to touch Ortiz with right hands. At nights end, a bruise under the left eye of Ortiz spoke to the effort of Rengifo but it wasn’t nearly enough. Scores came in at a perhaps too wide 99-91, 98-92, and 96-94.

Ortiz, a former WBC titlist at the weight as well, notches her eighth successful title defense of a reign dating to July 2012.

The card was televised in the US on BeIn Espanol, promoted by Zanfer.
