Teofimo Lopez Hopes Josh Taylor Beats Ramirez, Wants To Face Him

IBF, WBC Franchise, WBA, WBO lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez is already eyeing a potential showdown with the WBA, IBF champion at 140-pounds, Josh Taylor.

Taylor is being lined up for a full division unification with WBC, WBO champion Jose Ramirez.

Lopez is hoping Taylor will win - and then the two of them can face each other in the ring.

"They got to make that happen. Absolutely. I would love to do that fight in the UK. The main guy I do want to win from that fight is Josh Taylor. It'll go to show everyone that we talk a lot, but we back it up," Lopez told BBC Radio.

Lopez raised his profile in the sport in 2020 - when he pulled off a shocker in winning a twelve round unanimous decision win over one of the top fighters in the sport, Vasiliy Lomachenko, last October at the MGM Grand's Conference Center in Las Vegas.

The unbeaten boxer says there is no question that he came away with the rightful victory.

"We beat him fair and square, we beat him clearly," said Lopez.

"Had this fight been a split decision, then yes, we could talk about something but this turned out to be a unanimous decision for a reason. We outboxed the boxer, we beat the boxer, now it's on to bigger and better things."

Lopez has a mandatory defense at his feet from the IBF, with unbeaten George Kambosos on deck. That fight will happen in the next few months when the COVID-19 restrictions ease up a bit.

In the future, Lopez will look to conquer the junior welterweight limit of 140 and then eventually he wants to take aim at the welterweight division.

"We are resisting my full potential, because we want to make these other fights happen. At 140, you guys will see my full potential. At 147, you will see a lot more," Lopez said.
