Teofimo Lopez (16-0) recently went 'Live" on his verified Instagram account to interact with boxing fans about a variety of topics.
It turns out that it wasn't just fans who were tuning in. Matchroom Boxing managing director Eddie Hearn also left a few comments for Lopez on a potential fight against his fighter, Devin Haney.
Lopez holds the WBO, WBA, IBF and WBC Franchise lightweight titles while Devin Haney is the WBC lightweight champion.
There has been a lot of back and forth between Lopez and Haney as to the validity of the Haney's title. Vasiliy Lomachenko was elevated to WBC 'Franchise' champion, which made the WBC title vacant. Haney, who was the interim-champion at the time, was then upgraded to full champion which prompted Lopez to mock him by calling him an 'email champion.'
The 23-year-old Lopez said that he has no problems facing Haney but that he wants him to beef up his resume first.
"Yo Eddie, you got to get his weight up. You gotta give him somebody. Come on. You know I gotta fight my mandatory. It defeats the purpose of me and him fighting if I give up one of those belts. Eddie, you just gotta get him a live body. Give him somebody who has a pulse and then after I do what I gotta do with Kambosos. He ain't no pushover. He is a hungry cat. That is why I am in the gym non-stop," Lopez responded.
Lopez was referring to George Kambosos Jr. who the IBF ordered him to fight. The purse bid was recently postponed till February 23rd.
Lopez said that he has no problems facing Haney after Kambosos. Haney is rumored to be fighting former multi-division champion Jorge Linares on April 17th which should satisfy Lopez's demand of a solid win on Haney's resume.
"As long as he has a good win against a solid fighter in the top 10 ,then we will go from there. Come on Eddie, you know me. I love taking these fights," said Lopez.
