Quigg Breaks Down Froch-Groves; McDonnell Ready

With the buildup to Saturday’s big British grudge match between Carl Froch and George Groves intensifying almost by the hour, Scott Quigg is the latest to throw some fuel on the fire by suggesting that Groves has the style to cause an upset. The WBA super bantamweight champion is chief support on the Manchester bill, defending his title against Argentina’s Diego Silva. But looking ahead to the main event, the Bury man thinks timing could be everything. “George Groves can definitely hurt Carl Froch,” he said, “because Froch will be coming on strong, very aggressive. That means that it could double the impact (of any Groves counters), because George has excellent timing. This is not going to be a stroll in the park for Carl. He cant just walk in – he’ll have to work his way in or he could be in for a shock.”

Steven Gerrard's cousin Rocky Fielding (17-0, 10 KOs) looked like the Thing in a quick blowout of a late sub Luke Blackledge (14-2-2, 5 KOs). Fielding knocked out Blackledge col at 2:32 of the very first round with a massive left hook to retain his Commonwealth super middleweight title for the very first time. Blackledge came in as a substitute for the Guyanese Lennox Allen. He started confidently but Fielding slipped his punches and answered hard in return. Midst into the third minute Blackledge tried to get Fielding at the ropes, was stepped over and ate a big (but short) left hook he never saw. Team Fielding targets Paul Smith next in a huge domestic showdown.

Ricky Hatton: Foster vs. Crolla Will Be a Cracker

RICKY HATTON thinks this weekend's derby match-up between Stephen Foster Jnr and Anthony Crolla will be a cracker. Salford's Foster Jnr has been handed the chance to appear on the undercard of the big Froch v Groves bill after Crolla's original opponent, British lightweight champion Martin Gethin, was forced to pull out. The 33-year-old former European super-featherweight titlist will go in as an underdog, but Hatton says people would be wrong to write him off. "I think this is a very good derby fight between two of boxing's real nice guys," the Hitman said.
