Spence: I'd Want Pacquiao Next, To Stop Him Would Be Big

A few days ago, Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, who works with WBA "regular" welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, made it known that he would love to see his boxer face the winner of this weekend's big showdown at 147-pounds.

Four division world champion Mikey Garcia is moving up by two weight divisions to challenge IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence, and the contest takes at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

"This is a great battle between two top-10 pound-for-pound fighters,” said Roach to Premier Boxing Champions. “Mikey is showing great courage in challenging Errol, but I think he may have taken on too much in moving up for this one. It's is the type of fight that creates intrigue for fans and that's good for boxing. I'm going with Errol Spence in this one. I think he has the size and power advantage. I'd love to see [Roach fighter] Manny Pacquiao fight the winner next. What a fight that will be!"

Spence feels the same as Roach.

He would love to face Pacquiao next, in a huge Texas stadium fight.

“[I'd want] Manny Pacquiao,” Spence stated to Sporting News on the topic of his next desired opponent. “We can have that fight at Cowboy Stadium. He has a crazy following and packed the stadium before with Joshua Clottey. A fight between us would be huge.”

Another major fight is a showdown with WBO world champion Terence Crawford.

But Spence would prefer the bout with Pacquiao, because the Filipino superstar is very close to retirement.

“If I had to choose, I don’t want the Crawford fight right now,” Spence said. “For me, I have to choose Pacquiao. He’s on his way out and with everything he’s accomplished, especially if I can really put a beating on him and get a stoppage. That would be big for me. I want that next.”

Pac had a great career but father time beats us all. I don't see any reason for him to fight Spence. I'd prefer he took someone easier and cashed out. There's nothing to win for him here past 40 years…

[QUOTE=blacksocks;19592172]Dirty fighter Horn clearly lost that fight but Arum made sure Manny loses in Horn's hometown. Now big welter Spence wasn't able to knockdown or stop 135 pounder Mikey and you think he's just going to walk down Pac? Spence…

Stopping Crawford would have been way bigger. Stopping a semi-retired fighter in his 40s won't do much for a younger fighter.

Spence enjoyed beating up a dwarf so much that now he wants another one.
