Meng Fanlong was so eager to prove himself against an established ex-champion, he was willing to fight Sergey Kovalev at a catch weight of 188 pounds last Saturday night. Fanlong appeared much more comfortable Thursday morning, though, when he stepped on the Florida Athletic Commission’s scale at 174.6 pounds for his 12-round light heavyweight fight against Jean Pascal.

A card headlined by the return of former light heavyweight champ Jean Pascal will feature an eight-man tournament where all participants face a must-win situation.

The junior welterweight contender did those things in spots, but Barboza watched him revert to his old habits at times, too.

Viewership of ESPN’s boxing broadcast Tuesday night was the lowest of the seven weeknight shows since the network began airing the sport again June 9. Nielsen Media Research numbers released Wednesday indicated an average of 298,000 viewers watched the three-hour, 15-minute telecast. A peak audience of 378,000 tuned in during the main event, Alex Saucedo’s victory over Sonny Fredrickson at MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas.
