Dublin - Skye Nicolson had an easy night's work, dominating London based Swede, Lucy Wildheart, and retaining her WBC interim featherweight title.

Nicolson (9-0, 1 KO) went about her business in her usual manner, circling the ring, using a wide stance and leaning away to make it even harder for Wildheart (10-3, 4 KO’s) to reach her. Nicolson wants to capitalize every time her opponent falls short and although a Wildheart right hand was probably the best shot of a quiet opening round, Nicolson instantly had the type of fight she wanted.

Midway through the second round, Wildheart already looked to be running out of ideas and Nicolson found it easier to time her with the odd looping right hook and left hand. Wildheart’s feet were too slow and she was coming in empty - trying to close the distance without throwing a consistent jab. Nicholson was able to work at her own tempo and had an easy job of picking Wildheart off with counter shots as she walked forward.

The pattern of the fight was set and the onus was squarely on Wildheart’s shoulders to change it. Nicolson put a little more distance between them in the fifth and the extra time helped her find a regular home for her straight left hand. Wildheart just couldn’t avoid the shots and didn’t possess the ability to alter her gameplan.

Although it didn’t make for much of a spectacle, Nicolson was more than content with the way the fight was playing out. As the ninth round got underway, Nicolson landed a flush left hand and finally put a second phase to her attack. She put together an accurate series of follow up shots. Wildheart’s nose began to gush blood and her corner threw in the towel. The time was 1.11 of round nine.
