Sergey Lipinets: record, next fight and profile →
Omar Figueroa Jr. quickly secured a new opponent Monday morning in the aftermath of Adrien Broner’s abrupt withdrawal from their fight scheduled for Saturday night.
As BoxingScene.com previously reported, Brandun Lee, one of the sport’s most exciting prospects and biggest punchers, will take on Will Madera in a 10-round super lightweight bout Saturday, August 20 live on SHOWTIME from Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. in a Premier Boxing Champions event. The newly added bout will serve as the opener to a loaded four-fight SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast that now begins live on SHOWTIME at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
Sergey Lipinets is ready to give junior welterweight another try. The former titlist is preparing to drop back down in weight following a two-year foray in the welterweight division, with hopes of his return to the 140-pound division to come next January. Lipinets—who briefly held the IBF junior welterweight crown—never moved up to welterweight out of physical necessity more than means to remain active. With more opportunities now opening back up in his old division, it felt like time to return to his optimal weight.
LAS VEGAS – Jaron Ennis knew almost immediately April 10 that he “had” Sergey Lipinets. The fast, powerful, skillful Philadelphia native determined that he demoralized Lipinets during the first round of a welterweight fight Ennis won by sixth-round knockout. Ennis sensed from Lipinets’ body language that the former IBF junior welterweight champion knew he was in the ring with an unusual opponent who would overwhelm him.
More viewers watched Jaron Ennis’ dominant performance against Sergey Lipinets than his previous televised fight that officially counted on his record. According to numbers Nielsen Media Research released Tuesday, Showtime’s telecast of Ennis’ sixth-round knockout of Lipinets attracted an average audience of 187,000. Viewership peaked at 191,000 during the Ennis-Lipinets bout at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
UNCASVILLE, Connecticut – Jaron Ennis hopes to become a world champion by the end of this year or the beginning of 2022. The emerging welterweight contender understands, of course, that the champions in his division probably won’t fight him voluntarily. If anything, the unbeaten Ennis’ superb performance against Sergey Lipinets on Saturday night will probably prolong his wait for a world title shot.
By Corey Erdman - After Jaron Ennis both hoisted Sergey Lipinets off his feet with a left uppercut and left him prone on the canvas to end their fight, Ennis calmly walked back to his corner. As the referee ended the fight officially with Lipinets clearly unable to continue, Ennis briefly flexed his arms in celebration. Not the kind of aggressive flexing athletes do when they’re fired up or have done something unexpected—quite the opposite. Ennis was calm in the moment, showing the base-level amount of excitement about doing something he fully expected to do.

Rising welterweight star Jaron “Boots” Ennis aced the toughest test of his professional career with a sensational sixth-round knockout win over former world champion Sergey Lipinets in the main event on Saturday night’s Showtime televised main event from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
Mohegan Sun, CT - Even though Sergey Lipinets came in 9 years older than Jaron Ennis, this was Lipinets’ 19th pro fight versus Ennis’ 27th pro bout.
