Mohegan Sun, CT - In a welterweight showdown, Jaron Ennis (27-0, 25 KOs) made a statement when he knocked out former world champion Sergey Lipinets (16-2-1, 12 KOs) in the sixth round. (photos by Amanda Westcott)
Ennis came out with a stiff jab, using movement and keeping Lipinets at a distance. Lipinets was doing his best and able to connect here and there, but Ennis was unloading with heavy punches in the second and third.

Lipinets was unable to get to the target as Ennis was catching the veteran with good shots. Ennis landed a good counter to send Lipinets down. There was a bit of a slip involved, with the referee ruling it as a knockdown. Lipinets was able to fight his way out of trouble, but also took some hard shots.

During the fifth, Ennis was unloading with punches when Lipinets landed a hard low blow to create a brief delay in the fight. Lipinets was making it a fight in the sixth. He was able to get in and land here and there. Ennis continued to connect and blasted him down with a big left hand. The fight was quickly waved off.
