Guerrero: Aydin Hit Me Harder Than Thurman

Former champion Robert 'The Ghost' Guerrero showed a lot of heart on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, as he withstood the feared punching power of Keith Thurman for twelve tough rounds. The naturally larger Thurman won a lopsided decision and retained his WBA 'regular' welterweight title. After the fight, Guerrero gave praise to the power of Thurman but also said Secuk Aydin was a bigger puncher. Guerrero made his welterweight debut against Aydin in 2012 and won a twelve round decision.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Viktor Postol got an easy win in his American TV debut, though it wasn’t pretty. He stopped Selcuk Aydin (26-3, 19 KOs) in Round 11 on Saturday at The Forum, the HBO co-feature to Juan Manuel Marquez-Mike Alvarado. The fight was trudging along at a snail’s pace when Postol (26-0, 11 KOs) caught Aydin with a five-punch combo punctuated with a devastating right uppercut. Aydin ate a bunch of shots in that sequence, but wouldn’t go down, causing him to absorb more punishment. When he hit the canvas in a daze, the referee quickly jumped in to halt the action at 2:52.

Postol, a boxer/puncher, is the busier fighter. Postol avg'd 34 jabs thrown per round (vs. Lundy, Nabiev). He'll need the jab to hold off Aydin, who'll want to get inside to do damage- 81% of his landed punches were power shots. Postol's opponents landed just 22% of their power shots. Aydin's opponents (Guerrero, Soto Karass) landed 36% of their power punches.
