Sandor Martin: record, next fight and profile →
Teofimo Lopez’s time near the top of the pugilistic mountain proved to be transient. Although a win over Vasiliy Lomachenko vaulted him onto the world stage, George Kambosos Jr. ultimately knocked him off his high horse.
Teofimo Lopez is convinced his closely contested fight with Sandor Martin was an anomaly. The 140-pound contender and former unified lightweight champion from Brooklyn, New York, thinks he will start displaying a far more dominant version of himself when he goes up against the top contenders and champions in his new weight class.
Andre Ward has always been incredibly high on Teofimo Lopez. The sublime speed, underrated defensive skills, and his ability to rattle off four to five punch combinations before turning off the lights of his opponents is something that Ward has openly acknowledged. Regis Prograis wasn’t about to kick Teofimo Lopez while he was down, despite all their recent vitriol. ESPN’s peak audience for the Lopez-Martin match was 972,000.
From the moment Teofimo Lopez made his professional debut, his calling card and claim to fame came from his ability to separate his foes from their consciousness. But as the deleterious knockout puncher attempts to get comfortable facing bigger men at 140-pounds, at least one of his more recent opponents has been left unimpressed with his supposed power.
NEW YORK – The 10 rounds he just spent in the ring with Teofimo Lopez convinced Sandor Martin that the next southpaw Lopez might fight will tear through him. The Spanish contender predicted that WBC super lightweight champion Regis Prograis will handle Lopez easily if they
NEW YORK – Teofimo Lopez criticized Sandor Martin for “running” during their closely contested, 10-round fight Saturday night. Lopez himself didn’t run from the burning question that at least temporarily crept into his mind after he fended off Martin by split decision in their main event at Madison Square Garden.
