Sandor Martin received the encore he deserved following the biggest win of his career to date.

The next step is now a world title.

The streaking Spaniard has set his sights on the most notable names and talent in the junior welterweight division following his latest win, a ten-round virtual shutout of Jose Felix Jr. on April 1 in his Barcelona hometown. The fight was the first for Martin following his upset majority decision win over former-four division titlist Mikey Garcia last October, with hopes that in his immediate future awaits another high-profile assignment.

“I want to face the best there is in the junior welterweight division,” Martin insisted after extending his current eleven-fight win streak in the DAZN main event. “I want [former WBC/WBO junior welterweight champ Jose] Ramirez. I want [Jose] Zepeda. I want Teofimo Lopez. I’m not here to play games. I’m here to show that I am the best.”

The ideal fight for Martin (40-2, 13KOs) would be a shot at a major title, though all are currently occupied by undisputed junior welterweight champion Josh Taylor (19-0, 13KOs). The good news for those not owed a mandatory title fight is that Taylor will likely vacate his slew of belts in favor of a move to the welterweight division.

Martin would have to hope for a promotion in the current rankings of at least one sanctioning body to be next in line for a title. The 28-year-old Spanish southpaw is currently number-four with the WBA, who offered a regional title at stake for Martin’s win over Felix (39-6-1, 30KOs). The purpose of those belts are normally to allow its claimants to advance in the rankings, which would leave Martin and promoter Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing poised to bring a major fight to his home country where he serves as a major draw.

“That would be a dream,” admitted Martin. “A fight like that would be a turning point in Spanish boxing history. My challenge is to get Eddie Hearn to deliver a world title fight to Spain and I promise I won’t disappoint.”
