After a tactical start, 26-year old Jr. Middleweight Gabriel Rosado (20-5, 12 KO) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, settled on a bruising pace and broke down 32-year old veteran Sechew Powell (26-5, 15 KO) of Brooklyn, New York, scoring a stoppage in the ninth round of a trying encounter. It was only the second stoppage loss for Powell but his third straight defeat dating back to 2010.

Sands Casino Resort, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania - Light heavyweight prospect Sergey Kovalev (18-0-1, 15 KOs) stopped rugged journeyman Darnell Boone (19-19-3, 8 KOs) in two rounds. They previously fought in October 2010, where Kovalev won a razor thin eight round split decsion.

Sechew Powell gave Gabriel Rosado credit for his impressive victory against Jesus Soto Karass. Powell made it clear, however, that there’s nothing similar about him and the veteran Mexican brawler Rosado stopped in the fifth round Jan. 21 in Philadelphia. The 32-year-old Powell plans to demonstrate those differences tonight, when he’ll face Rosado (19-5, 11 KOs) in a 12-round junior middleweight fight that’ll be broadcast as a main event on NBC Sports Network from Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem, Pa. (9 p.m. EDT/PDT).

It’s just as well, according to Gabriel Rosado, that Sechew Powell replaced Joel Julio as his opponent tonight in Bethlehem, Pa. Rosado figures he needs as much work against southpaws as possible as he prepares for a run at a junior middleweight world title later this year. The 26-year-old fighter from Philadelphia is 3-1 in his six-year pro career against left-handed opponents, but his last nine fights have come against right-handed boxers.

Bethlehem, PA - The stage is set for Friday's televised doubleheader at the Event Center at the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem. NBC Sports Network Fight Night cameras invade the 1,832-seat Event Center for an evening of world-class professional boxing. The double-header main event features Gabriel Rosado, of Philadelphia, PA, vs. Sechew Powell, of Brooklyn, in a 12-round contest for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental junior middleweight title, and Ronald Cruz, of Bethlehem, PA, vs. Prenice Brewer, of Cleveland, OH, for the vacant WBC Continental Americas welterweight crown.
