INGLEWOOD, California – John “Scrappy” Ramirez first pounded the body and then took the head to pull off a resounding fourth-round knockout victory against Ronal Batista on Saturday night.
John Ramirez always knew where he wanted to land and trusted the process to get there. The unbeaten junior bantamweight contender known affectionately as ‘Scrappy’ in boxing circles is prepared to show out in his WBA title eliminator versus Panama’s Ronal Batista (15-3, 9KOs) this Saturday as part of a DAZN show from the Kia
Alexis Rocha was all smiles while Giovani Santillan was all business as they soaked in the last bit of ambiance during Friday’s weigh-in ceremony. Both welterweights made weight for their scheduled twelve-round bout. Rocha was 147 pounds, while the unbeaten
John ‘Scrappy’ Ramirez will have to wait two more weeks to inch closer towards his first major title. Golden Boy Promotions confirmed that Ramirez’s planned clash versus Panama’s Ronal Batista will no longer take place this weekend as originally scheduled. The WBA junior bantamweight title eliminator will now land on an October 21 DAZN show, also presented by Golden Boy and headlined by the Alexis Rocha-Giovanni Santillan welterweight bout from the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.
As BoxingScene.com previously reported, John “Scrappy” Ramirez (12-0, 8 KOs) will co-headline the Gilberto Ramirez vs. Joe Smith card with a 10-round, WBA Super Flyweight Final Eliminator fight against Panama City, Panama’s Ronal Batista (15-3, 9 KOs).
Ten months after accepting a World Boxing Association (WBA) offer to fight in a title eliminator, super flyweight contender John “Scrappy” Ramirez (12-0, 9 KOs) will finally get his opportunity October 7th in Las Vegas against Panamanian boxer Ronal Batista (15-3, 9 KOs).
Junior welterweight contender Steve Spark is furious with a last minute decision to switch two of the judges for last Saturday's fight with hometown boxer Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela at Akron Stadium in Mexico.
Julio Cesar Martinez had more trouble with Ronal Batista on Saturday night than the wide odds suggested he would. Mexico City’s Martinez eventually overwhelmed the pesky Panamanian with his power, however, and stopped him early in the 11th round on the Canelo Alvarez-John Ryder undercard at a sold-out Akron Stadium in Zapopan, Mexico. Referee Celestino Ruiz stepped between them to stop the action exactly a minute into the 11th round, after Martinez pummeled Batista with a barrage of power punches while Batista was backed into the ropes.
