Rolando “Rolly” Romero returned Saturday night to The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, the site of his controversial championship win two months ago, resigned to fulfilling his obligation against Ohara Davies.
A purse bid date has been assigned to the Rolando Romero-Ohara Davies clash. WBA president Gilberto Jesus Mendoza confirmed that the sanctioning body will hold a July 24 hearing to determine promotional rights for the mandatory 140-pound title fight.
The Rolando Romero-Ohara Davies WBA junior welterweight title fight will head to a purse bid hearing. BoxingScene.com has learned that the ordered 30-day negotiation period between parties ended without a deal being reached. Alberto Puello will face a six-month suspension but avoided a fine or further disciplinary action for a prior drug test. The five-member Nevada State Athletic Commission panel voted unanimously to bench the unbeaten Dominican through October 5 during its monthly agenda hearing held Tuesday at state headquarters in Las Vegas. The ruling stemmed from a prior positive drug test as produced from a sample collected by Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) on April 5 and discovered on April 19.

The simmering beef between Ryan Garcia and Oscar De La Hoya boiled over on Thursday as the fighter and promoter tussled back and forth on Twitter, adding yet another chapter to their complicated relationship.
Ryan Garcia is ready to rebound and revive his career following a knockout loss to Gervonta Davis. Garcia (23-1, 19 KOs) will move forward with new trainer Derrick James as a super lightweight the next time he steps into the ring. The 140-pound division is one that Garcia has competed in twice before getting stopped by Davis during a 136-pound catchweight in April.
Rolando Romero will not have the luxury of selecting his next title challenger. The recently crowned WBA junior welterweight titlist was instructed to enter a 30-day negotiation period with England’s Ohara Davies for a mandatory title defense that was officially ordered Monday. The sanctioning body informed both parties of the ruling, thus killing plans for any other fight eyed by Romero and his team.
