Roberto Garcia: record, next fight and profile →
Martin Murray from the U.K. was involved in an unsportsmanlike conflict during the official weigh-in for his fight against Roberto Garcia for the WBC silver championship in the middleweight division. The WBC Disciplinary Committee has investigated the facts surrounding this incident and WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman established direct contact with our champion, Martin Murray.
SATURDAY NIGHT’S SHOW at the 02 Arena was not what we originally had in mind when we booked London’s biggest indoor arena for an April extravaganza. You might recall that Billy Joe Saunders‘ defence of his WBO world middleweight title against Martin Murray was to be garnished by Terry Flanagan and Maurice Hooker fighting it out for the WBO world super lightweight belt, along with Ohara Davies and Josh Leather jostling for position in the queue to fight the winner.
Martin Murray ensured his ambitions at world level could still remain as he got a scrappy win. The St Helens middleweight had been set to face Billy Joe Saunders for the Hatfield ace’s WBO middleweight title. But the undefeated global ruler withdrew from their clash at the O2 Arena in London, leaving Martin Murray to challenge Texas-based Mexican Roberto Garcia for the WBC Silver title.
It wasn’t a pretty victory, but Martin Murray fended off Roberto Garcia in their middleweight fight Saturday night. Murray mostly was the busier, more accurate fighter and withstood Garcia’s rally late in their 12-round middleweight match at O2 Arena in London. England’s Murray (37-4-1, 17 KOs) won a unanimous decision over Texas’ Garcia (41-4, 24 KOs, 1 NC), who had two points deducted, one apiece in the second and ninth rounds.
Martin Murray has warned Roberto Garcia that he will be taking his frustration out on the Mexican. After a fight with Billy Joe Saunders fell through on two occasions, Murray now faces the WBC Interim Middleweight Champion at The O2 this Saturday. Speaking to the BoxNation Podcast, Murray explained how he and his trainer Jamie Moore had to switch the focus in training just a few weeks ago.
MARTIN MURRAY lashed out at WBC Silver Middleweight Champion Roberto Garcia ahead of their big clash on Saturday night at London’s o2. The feuding ?ghters clashed after both weighing in for Garcia’s title defence against the St Helens man, where the mandatory position for Gennady Golovkin’s WBC crown is at stake.
LONDON’S 02 ARENA will on Saturday play host to a number of the capital’s leading lights of the sport ahead of a main event that is hopefully bringing one of my old sparring partners back into town. It was naturally disappointing for all concerned when news broke of Billy Joe Saunders withdrawing from his world title defence against Martin Murray through injury but, out of bad news comes good, and we managed to put together a cracking clash between Martin and the WBC Silver middleweight title holder Roberto Garcia.
PROMOTER Frank Warren today held the ?nal press conference ahead of Saturday’s o2 Arena show topped topped by Roberto Garcia’s WBC Silver Middleweight Title defence against Martin Murray. The likely prize for the winner is being made mandatory challenger for WBC world champion, Gennady Golovkin.
MARTIN MURRAY can start dreaming of a rematch against Gennady Golovkin if he successfully unleashes his fury on Roberto Garcia. The St Helens man challenges for the Mexican’s WBC silver middleweight title at London’s o2 on June 23, in another blockbuster ?ght being screened live on BT Sport.
Roberto Garcia will defend his WBC Silver Middleweight title against Martin Murray at The O2 in London on June 23, live on BT Sport and BoxNation. Murray will be looking to put the frustrations of missing out on a shot at the WBO Middleweight World Title behind him when he challenges Mexico's 41-3 Garcia later this month.
