Roberto Garcia Wants Jaime Munguia on Canelo-Golovkin Card

Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin’s rematch is all set for Mexican Independence Day on September 15th in Las Vegas, but what better way to add a little war to the card than having two Mexicans do battle.

Roberto Garcia just witnessed Jaime Munguia’s unanimous decision over Liam Smith on Saturday night and if Munguia is ready to return to the ring on September 15th, Garcia is ready as well.

“What better way to celebrate Mexican Independence Day than to have two Mexican’s do battle,” said Garcia.  “We are both warriors.  One veteran taking on one youngster.  We both come to fight.  Let’s get it on.”

Garcia is thankful to Zanfer Promotions (Munguia’s co-promoter with Golden Boy) for giving him his career defining fight against Julio Cesar Chavez’s son, Omar Chavez.

Garcia won that fight on Aug. 12, 2017 in a 10-round unanimous decision to win the WBC Silver Middleweight title.

Garcia lost his title in his first defense after traveling to England and losing a unanimous 12-round decision to Martin Murray on June 23, 2018.

“Two warriors doing battle, “Thunder vs Lightning” , both fighters coming forward all night , I’ll KO the “Kid”  somewhere late in the fight or I win by unanimous decision.”

No doubt the fight would be epic.

IN OTHER NEWS: Last week, our WBC Los Angeles Office received a call from WBC Clean Boxing Program Chairperson, Luis Escalona, letting us know two boys from Texas would be in Los Angeles after competing in the Mesquite Golden Gloves Tournament. Mr. Escalona advised us it would be the kids dream to visit the WBC Office, but even more so to meet their hero, 3x WBC Diamond Champion Leo Santacruz.

WBC contacted Leo Santacruz to invite him to the LA Office and surprise the Bocanegra brothers. Leo then had a better idea, he said, "Why don't you bring them to my house and we can go swimming?" WBC then planned the visit and yesterday picked up Xavier and Ray Bocanegra, along with their father to take them to the Champs home.

The Champ opened the doors of his home and welcomed the Bocanegra kids to his home, showed him his Championship belts, his home, his pets and of course introduced them to his family. The kids had a great experience hanging out with the Champ and we know this will truly be a beautiful memory they will forever cherish.

WBC thanks Leo Santacruz and his family for always being willing to give back and be part of special WBC Cares moments like these.

The words of our WBC President, Mauricio Sulaiman, after seeing the videos and photos were, " Their smiles say it all, Leo is not only a great Champion in the ring, but a formidable human being with an amazing heart of a true Champion. Thank you Leo for your genuine heart."

No way jose! RG! is not reliable at all... this punk might miss weight (again) by 10 lbs + and he would ruin the fight! JM vs Perro angulo! TJ vs Mexicali... JM needs a make him look good fight…
