NEW YORK – Robert Helenius walked away from the ring Saturday night with an immense amount of respect for Adam Kownacki. The veteran Finnish fighter felt Kownacki’s power and admires the Brooklyn-bred heavyweight’s toughness. The 36-year-old Helenius knew, though, that he’d be able to hit Kownacki almost at will because the previously undefeated contender’s defensive deficiencies leave him vulnerable at times.

More so than local support, the greatest joy felt by Adam Kownacki fighting at home is recalling how he first gravitated to the sport. The unbeaten heavyweight contender returns to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center for the 10th time in his career as he faces Finland’s Robert Helenius this Saturday atop a Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Fox tripleheader. The bout will mark his fifth straight appearance at the venue and second in a row as a headlining act, and with every occasion drawing raucous support for the Polish slugger.
Robert Helenius hopes an upset of Adam Kownacki on Saturday night can secure the heavyweight title shot that has long eluded him. Helenius hasn’t allowed himself, however, to even consider the possibilities beyond boxing Kownacki in their main event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Finnish fighter has made that mistake prior to previous fights, and that lack of focus cost him dearly.
