Robert Helenius: record, next fight and profile →
Robert Helenius has sparred against Anthony Joshua several times in recent years. If Helenius gets the opportunity to face Joshua in a fight that counts, the veteran heavyweight is confident he’d achieve what was expected of him 10 year ago.
Robert Helenius isn’t contractually obligated to give Adam Kownacki a rematch. Frankly, the veteran heavyweight doesn’t think Kownacki even really wants a second shot at him. Finland’s Helenius dropped the significantly favored Kownacki twice and stopped the popular Polish contender in the fourth round of a fight FOX televised March 7 from Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Robert Helenius is now the holder of the WBA Gold heavyweight title. Earlier this year, Helenius, then # 7 in the WBA ratings, beat Adam Kownacki, then # 4, in what was billed as a WBA eliminator. In the new ratings released a few days ago Helenius is named Gold champion.
Heavyweight contender Robert Helenius is flying high after winning a WBA eliminator with an unexpected knockout victory over undefeated top contender Adam Kownacki. Helenius dropped Kownacki twice, before stopping him in the fourth round at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The viewership for FOX’s broadcast of Adam Kownacki’s first defeat was almost as high as the network’s audience for Kownacki’s fan-friendly slugfest with Chris Arreola. Figures released Wednesday by Nielsen Media Research showed viewership for Kownacki’s fourth-round, technical-knockout defeat to Robert Helenius on Saturday night peaked at 1,681,000. The average audience for their short heavyweight bout, the main event of a tripleheader, was 1,675,000.

Robert Helenius’ comeback from his eighth-round knockout defeat to Gerald Washington is among the things that make Kownacki confident he’ll be able to respond positively to his first defeat. He hopes Helenius gives him an immediate rematch, but because Kownacki isn’t contractually owed a rematch, he might have to oppose someone else whenever he’s ready to fight following his fourth-round, technical-knockout loss at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Kownacki’s home borough.
NEW YORK – In hindsight, Robert Helenius is thrilled that referee David Fields missed his first knockdown of Adam Kownacki on Saturday night. Backed against the ropes, Helenius hit Kownacki with a left-right combination that dropped Kownacki to one knee 20 seconds into the fourth round of their scheduled 12-round main event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. A stunned Kownacki popped right to his feet after suffering the first knockdown of his career, which led to the previously unbeaten heavyweight contender losing by technical knockout shortly thereafter.
By Corey Erdman - There’s a reason Adam Kownacki has performed at Barclays Center almost as many times as Jay-Z. Yes, he has legions of Polish fans who buy tickets to his fights, but not every high-level Polish fighter can headline one of the United States’ major venues. Kownacki can because he’s exciting, and in boxing, unless you’re scoring sensational...
