Robert Garcia: record, next fight and profile →
According to Robert Garcia, trainer for Brandon Rios (34-3-1, 25 KOs), we will see the very best of his fighter on Saturday night from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Rios will collide with the returning two-division world champion Danny Garcia (33-1, 19 KOs) in a WBC final welterweight eliminator.
Robert Garcia considers Vasyl Lomachenko one of the two best boxers in the world. The veteran trainer also understands why fight fans want to watch his younger brother, Mikey Garcia, test Lomachenko in what would be one of the most intriguing fights that the sport can offer. Robert Garcia just doesn’t think the timing is right for that fight to happen.
Robert Garcia eventually warmed up to his younger brother’s ambitious idea to move up two more weight classes to challenge Miguel Cotto. Mikey Garcia’s trainer even envisioned the WBC lightweight champion stopping Puerto Rico’s Cotto, who wound up losing to huge underdog Sadam Ali in a farewell fight December 2 that was first offered to Garcia. Apart from fighting Cotto at 154 pounds, though, Robert Garcia doesn’t want Mikey Garcia to move up any higher than he already has for fights.
Three-division world champion Abner Mares (31-2-1) is looking to have a big 2018. After fighting just once in 2016 and 2017, the WBA "regular" featherweight champion believes that he will achieve greater results in the new year. Part of the reason why Mares is so confident is the work that he has done with world class trainer Robert Garcia.
On February 10th, undefeated three-division world champion Mikey Garcia (37-0, 30 KOs) will attempt to win a world title in a fourth weight class when he challenges unbeaten IBF 140-pound world champion Sergey Lipinets (13-0, 10 KOs) at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Garcia, who still holds the WBC lightweight titles, has also captured belts at featherweight and super featherweight.

Robert Garcia, older brother and trainer of three division champion Mikey Garcia (37-0, 30 KOs), is confident that his younger sibling would be too strong and defeat Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs) at this stage of the game. Mikey was in action last month in Brooklyn, when he moved up to the junior welterweight division to dominate Adrien Broner - who happens to be Mayweather's close friend.
