Freddie Roach, trainer of WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38KOs), is not threatened by the growing confidence of their next opponent, undefeated WBO 140-pound champion Chris Algieri (20-0, 8KOs). The fight is set for November 22nd at the Venetian in Macau, China.
In an earlier article on BoxingScene.com, Algieri promised to enter the ring with the mindset of dominating Pacquiao from the first bell and even opened the door for a victory by knockout.
"I don’t go into this fight thinking that I have to win a decision or I have to outbox him or anything like that. If the knockout is there, the knockout is there. If it comes, it comes. If it doesn’t, I’m looking to dominate either way," Algieri told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
Roach blew off the comments, stating that Algieri can talk all he wants but he still won't be able to win.
"He's a good talker. He talks a lot, but all of the talking in the world is not going to help him win the fight," Roach told Boxing Academy.
