Despite not remaining very active, Guillermo Rigondeaux has managed to regularly remain in the headlines over the past couple of years. The unbeaten World super bantamweight champion returned to the ring last November, outpointing Drian Francisco over 10 rounds in a bout devoid of action in capping a forgettable 2015 campaign.
Guillermo Rigondeaux (16-0, 10 KOs) will use a well-known training facility when he touches down on Merseyside ahead of his UK debut next month. The Cuban, who is a two-time Olympic champion as well as a former WBO and WBA Super super bantamweight world ruler, is set to use the Derry ABC gym in the city centre, which is the home of WBO lightweight title challenger Derry Mathews.
Merseyside hero James ‘Jazza’ Dickens says he’s happy to be labelled as the underdog heading into his massive David versus Goliath showdown with pound-for-pound star Guillermo Rigondeaux but insists he won’t be there to make up the numbers. Dickens takes on the Cuban superstar over ten rounds on the title-packed undercard of Terry Flanagan’s world title defence against Derry Mathews on Saturday 12th March, exclusively live on BoxNation. ‘Jazza’, who’ll be fighting Rigondeaux in front of his home crowd at the Liverpool Echo Arena, has already been written off by many people in the boxing world but the chirpy Scouser remains fully-focused on causing one of the biggest upsets in recent boxing history.
Two-time Olympic gold medal winner Guillermo Rigondeaux continues to train with his coach Pedro Diaz. The pair reunited last month. Rigondeaux's next fight was announced a few days ago. He will travel to the UK on March 12th, where he's going to face Jazza Dickens at the Liverpool Echo Arena in England.
There was a time when Scott Quigg and Carl Frampton both had the opportunity to face World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux. The pair of unbeaten UK-based titlists have instead opted to face each other, with their unification bout taking place on February 27 in front of a sold-out Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.
As previously reported, one of the world’s top pound-for-pound boxing stars Guillermo Rigondeaux will fight in Britain for the first time on Saturday 12th March at the Liverpool Echo Arena when he faces Merseyside hero Jazza Dickens.
Frank Warren's office has confirmed to BoxingScene.com that the promoter has mad a deal for a March 12th fight between Cuban sensation Guillermo Rigondeaux (16-0, 10 early) and Liverpool’s James "Jazza" Dickens (21-1, 6 KOs) at Liverpool's Echo Arena and expects to make an announcement soon.
