Ryan Burton catches up with WBA super bantamweight champion Rico Ramos to discuss his upcoming fight with Guillermo Rigondeaux, training and more.

Interim WBA junior featherweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux was spotted at the Tapout gym on the West side of Las Vegas, Nevada. In what will serve as one of the final days of camp for the ultra-confident Cuban, Rigondeaux worked out under the eye of his new trainer Ismael Salas in anticipation of his clash this Friday night at the nearby Palms Casino against the WBA’s full champion Rico Ramos.

BoxingScene.com has been advised that veteran referee Joe Cortez was selected to work the upcoming super bantamweight clash between WBA champion Rico Ramos, and mandatory Guillermo Rigondeaux, which takes place at the Pearl at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nev. Ramos (20-0, 11 KOs) vs. Rigondeaux (8-0, 6 KOs) will be televised by Showtime.

January 20 cannot get here fast enough for Rico Ramos. The unbeaten super bantamweight saw his patience put to the test when his upcoming showdown with Guillermo Rigondeaux endured multiple postponements before settling on next Friday’s date at The Palms in Las Vegas.

Cuba's Guillermo “The Jackal” Rigondeaux accelerates his training at The Heavyweight Factory GYM in Hollywood, Florida. As usual, Rigondeaux was working hard with his physical conditioner DJ Montanocordoba and his trainer Ismael Salas.

Heading into his January 20th fight with two-time Gold medalist Guillermo Rigondeaux from Cuba, WBA junior featherweight champion Rico Ramos is craving his underdog role. Completely comfortable with the fact that the accolades and polished skills of Rigondeaux have given him most of the headlines heading in, Ramos has enough reason to believe he will pull off the upset in his Showtime-televised affair.

Guillermo “The Jackal” Rigondeaux told BoxingScene.com “I’m a disciplined fighter, I believe that my change in trainers has been a big help for me. Ismael Salas is Cuban like me and we have now a good road of communication”

By Robert Morales - Trainer Freddie Roach told this reporter last week that Manny Pacquiao would be coming to Los Angeles this week to talk about his next opponent. As it turns out, Pacquiao won't be coming to L.A., said his promoter, Bob Arum. Rather, Arum is going to the Philippines next week and will meet with Pacquiao on, or just after, Jan. 10 to discuss which of four fighters will next square off with him. They are Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradley, Miguel Cotto and Lamont Peterson. "I will be meeting with Manny that week and everything will get sorted out," Arum said. Arum said he is currently determining how all four fighters might fare as far as generating bucks for live gate and pay-per-view. "We are researching all of that, all four guys," Arum said. "We have asked HBO for their opinion, and I will present it all to Manny and then we will have a decision." Interestingly, not only would Arum not say which fighter he prefers during a telephone conversation with BoxingScene.com, he said he is going to withhold that information from Pacquiao as well.

WBA super bantamweight champion Rico Ramos is currently in Las Vegas finishing up his training camp for his January 20th showdown with mandatory challenger Guillermo Rigondeaux. The fight also takes place in Las Vegas, at The Palms Hotel and Casino. The original plan was for the fight to take place on the Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito undercard this past December. A misunderstanding with the purse being offered by Top Rank caused the fight to be scratched from that card and sent to a purse bid.

It was another packed scene at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, Nevada. WBA junior featherweight champion Rico Ramos was in the building, as the 24-year old is now a little over two weeks away from a crucial meeting with interim titlist Guillermo Rigondeaux. Ramos meets Rigondeaux at the nearby Palms Hotel and Casino on January 20th and he had the look of confidence during his training.
