Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has read several pieces on BoxingScene.com where Abel Sanchez, trainer for IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24KOs), was highly critical of WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin (29-0, 21KOs) and WBA super middleweight king Andre Ward.

Sanchez, while speaking to BoxingScene.com's Bill Emes, directed some fire at Quillin, who wants to face Golovkin in a unification encounter.

"If he really wanted to fight Golovkin, then he would tell his people - [Al] Haymon or Oscar [De La Hoya] or whoever that makes the decisions for him, because he doesn't seem to have a backbone to make them. Gennady Golovkin is fighting main events on HBO, main events. Peter Quillin is fighting undercard fights on Showtime. He needs to tell whoever in his camp that he wants to fight Golovkin and come fight on HBO because that's where Golovkin fights, in main events," Sanchez told BoxingScene.com.

Schaefer indicates that Sanchez is only presenting one half of the story and leaving out several important facts.

"I read over the past few days all of these negative comments from Abel Sanchez attacking Andre Ward, Peter Quillen and others. Golovkin might be fighting main events on HBO but he is responsible for the lowest ratings on HBO every time he fights. Abel Sanchez might be a decent trainer but other than that he has no clue on what he is talking about. Golovkin might be fighting at Madison Square Garden, but Abel should read the fine print… its the Theatre," Schaefer tells BoxingScene.com.

"Peter Quillin and Andre Ward both have graduated to bigger places because they draw bigger crowds.  I respect Golovkin as fighter, Abel Sanchez as a trainer and [K2's Tom] Loeffler as the promoter. But Abel should not get too carried away. Even though he lives up on Big Bear mountain he is far from the top."

Quillin returns on October 26th against an opponent to be determined in Atlantic City. Golovkin defends against Curtis Stevens on November 2 in New York City.
