NEW YORK – If Shakur Stevenson wants to fight Vasiliy Lomachenko, he’ll have to move up from the 130-pound division to the lightweight limit of 135.

Jamaine Ortiz doesn’t care who he fights next, nor is he specific in terms of calling out potential opponents in the 135-pound weight class. Anyone with a belt will do.

By Cliff Rold - Barring a draw, someone is going to make it two wins in a row. The other man is going to walk away having lost two of their last three. No one can say either man is shying away from the fire. Vasiliy Lomachenko is making his second start since a loss to Teofimo Lopez against a fighter widely regarded as top ten at lightweight. Going back to his win over lineal Jr. featherweight king Guillermo Rigondeaux, Richard Commey will be Lomachenko’s eighth straight opponent ranked from champion to top ten in their division by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board and Ring Magazine.

On Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City, a crossroads fight takes place in the lightweight division - with former world champions Vasiliy Lomachenko and Richard Commey colliding in the ring.

Vasiliy Lomachenko and Richard Commey couldn’t contain their smiles for long Friday afternoon once they made weight. The former lightweight champions clearly respect one another, thus they simply laughed and shook hands, instead of displaying any animosity toward one another the day before their 12-round main event at Madison Square Garden in New York. Moments earlier, Ukraine’s Lomachenko and Ghana’s Commey came in below the lightweight limit of 135 pounds.

NEW YORK – Vasiliy Lomachenko would still love to fight Gervonta Davis. The former unified lightweight champion is pretty certain, though, that the feeling isn’t mutual. Lomachenko was the only high-profile lightweight who wasn’t even mentioned as a potential opponent for Davis during a post-fight press conference Sunday night, after Davis defeated Mexican contender Isaac Cruz by unanimous decision in what was the most difficult fight of the unbeaten Baltimore native’s eight-year pro career.

By Keith Idec - NEW YORK – Vasiliy Lomachenko likely will regret the curiously cautious approach he took to the first half of his fight against Teofimo Lopez for the rest of his life.

NEW YORK – Vasiliy Lomachenko took offense Thursday when a reporter asked him if he was “happy” that Teofimo Lopez lost to George Kambosos Jr. Despite their rivalry, Lomachenko expressed empathy for Lopez, who was heavily favored to beat Kambosos on November 27 at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater. Lomachenko remembers what it was like to do his own soul searching following his 12-round, unanimous-decision defeat to Lopez in October 2020 at MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas.
